600 Seats, One Recording Studio Mindset: Apple Debuts a London Concert Venue

A music hall that holds 600 people, with two recording studios and a broadcast control room hidden inside — this isn't standard livehouse spec, but Apple's complete reimagining of what "live" means. Apple Music Hall sits inside Apple's UK headquarters at Battersea Power Station in London, with the venue itself accommodating up to 600 people, with seating and standing configurations adjustable depending on the performance.

Inside, the venue features a Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos sound system built from 48 speakers, along with 16 camera positions and a dedicated Spatial Audio live recording facility. The stage spans 38 feet wide and can switch between a traditional audience-facing setup and an in-the-round configuration. The interior design draws from Battersea Power Station's own architectural language — brick structures, arched lines, and bronze railings — alongside a full glass wall.

Oliver Schusser, Apple's VP of Music and International Content, said the opening of Apple Music Hall represents the company "going further" in its commitment to artists and fans, supporting live music in ways only Apple can — that's the official line, though the real proof will come once the venue's lineup gets underway.

The venue's real ambition is serving audiences who aren't physically present. The two recording and mixing rooms can turn a performance into multi-track Spatial Audio recordings, either live or in post-production, while the dedicated broadcast control room and iPhone-ready recording infrastructure mean, in theory, a single show could handle recording, mixing, and global livestreaming all at once. Backstage, high-spec dressing rooms overlook Battersea Power Station's shopping and dining areas — a genuinely nice perk for touring bands and crew.

In an interview with Wallpaper, Schusser noted that the venue is also designed with smaller artists in mind: "You can come in, do interviews, take photos, produce social content, play a show, livestream it globally, and walk away with a high-quality Spatial Audio recording." For independent or emerging musicians, that means a plug-and-play production pipeline without having to source their own recording and broadcast equipment.
