MILESTO EXPACE launches three expandable bags on November 9: compare empty weight before capacity

A backpack expands from 20L to 36L, a shoulder bag from 15L to 26L, and a Boston bag from 40.5L to 70.5L. Japanese reservations start November 2, but expansion is not a promise of unlimited carrying weight or waterproof protection.

MILESTO EXPACE launches three expandable bags on November 9: compare empty weight before capacity

Carrying a laptop on weekdays and spare clothes at weekends creates a changing demand for space. MILESTO’s new EXPACE range addresses that situation with three black bags: a backpack, shoulder bag and Boston bag. The Japanese launch is November 9, with reservations at directly operated shops and the official online store from November 2. The announcement was published at 12:10pm in Japan on November 2; it does not announce that the bags are already on sale in Taiwan.

Start by listing everyday essentials, then the clothes or travel items occasionally added. Maximum capacity describes volume, not whether a fully packed bag will feel manageable. Empty weights here range from approximately 580g to 1.1kg, a difference worth comparing alongside carrying style. Product photographs show the shapes before and after expansion; they are not this publication’s load-carrying, airline-acceptance or rain-test results.

The 20L-to-36L backpack still needs a device-size check

The EXPACE expandable backpack costs ¥23,100 including Japanese tax and weighs approximately 900g empty. Stated capacity is approximately 20L, or 36L expanded, including the front pocket. Published body dimensions are 310mm wide, 460mm high and 130mm deep, increasing to 230mm deep when expanded. Zips and adjusters change the shape, visible in the side-by-side photographs. For transport, compare the actual packed outer dimensions with the relevant rules rather than deciding from litres alone.

Its ten pockets include a laptop sleeve described as suitable for a 15-inch computer. That label does not guarantee a fit for every device casing or protective sleeve. If a laptop travels with you daily, measure it with its case and check the opening for insertion and removal. Pocket count alone also does not establish impact protection.

Shoulder and Boston bags differ in carrying style as well as space

The shoulder bag costs ¥19,800 including tax, weighs approximately 580g and expands from approximately 15L to 26L. It has six pockets: one front, two rear and three inside. Published width is 380mm, with a maximum of 480mm; height is 330mm, with a maximum of 440mm; depth is 90mm, or 230mm expanded. Lower empty weight offers one comparison point, but a shoulder bag distributes weight differently from a backpack. Fewer grams do not guarantee comfort over long periods.

The Boston bag costs ¥25,300 including tax and weighs approximately 1.1kg. Capacity including the front pocket is approximately 40.5L to 70.5L. Body dimensions are 450mm wide, 350mm high and 190mm deep, or 320mm deep expanded; it also has six pockets. Extra space makes it especially useful to consider lifting, stairs and movement along the route first. All three have suitcase-link straps, which do not establish equal stability on every suitcase or replace airline piece and weight limits.

Water repellency is not waterproofing, and expansion is not a load rating

The range uses recycled nylon outer fabric, polyester lining and cow-leather components, so it is not entirely free of animal-derived materials. The announced washer treatment gives the fabric its texture. The company explicitly distinguishes the water-repellent finish from waterproofing and warns that water may penetrate during prolonged rain exposure. For a commuter carrying electronics, the finish should not be treated as a guarantee that the contents will stay dry.

Dimensions, weights and capacities are approximate company specifications and may vary because these are sewn products. No maximum load figure verified by this publication is provided. Decide whether one bag can serve work and travel by comparing your packing list, empty weight, carrying method and organisation needs. A maximum of 70.5L is not a reason everyone should choose the largest bag. Meet ordinary daily needs first, then assess the value of occasional expansion.

Questions and answers

When can the bags be bought, and is Taiwan included?

Japanese directly operated shops and the official online store take reservations from November 2, ahead of the November 9 launch. The announcement does not give a simultaneous Taiwan release.

Can the water-repellent finish be treated as waterproof?

No. The announcement distinguishes the two and warns that prolonged rain can penetrate; it does not guarantee a completely dry interior.

Does expanded capacity automatically meet cabin-baggage rules?

No. Check packed dimensions, total weight and the airline’s applicable piece limits. Litres and suitcase-link straps are not permission to take a bag into the cabin.
